Gravure Doctor Blade Holders

Replace worn or damaged blade holders with a holder that features boltless blade clamping and toolless disassembly for wash up.

Allison offers retrofit blade holders that do not use bolts to clamp the doctor blade, thereby eliminating the problems associated with bolted blade clamping. Various types of Allison “boltless” holders are available to fit into most press configurations. The holder may include a pre-wipe device to minimize the amount of ink turbulence and force to which the doctor blade is exposed. Pre-wipe devices have been proven to reduce haze at high press speeds as well as other print defects. Our holders can also contain built-in seals to reduce clean up problems.

Cam Retrofit

Cam retrofit holder.

A tool-less holder which works well when space is limited on press.

  • Spring loading provides uniform clamping force.
  • Keyhole slot provides quick disassembly.
  • O-ring seal to reduce holder clean up.
  • Dowel pins are used for easy blade positioning.
  • Tapered nose piece provides reduced doctor blade force at the end of the gravure cylinder or anilox roll.

Toggle Retrofit

Toggle retrofit holder.

The toggle version is the most durable and economical and works well if space permits.

  • Fixture clamps provide spring pressure to clamp doctor blade in blade holder.
  • Fixture clamps and clamp bar easily open for blade change and cleaning operations.
  • Dowel pins are used for accurate blade positioning.
  • Tapered nose piece provides reduced doctor blade force at the end of the gravure cylinder or anilox roll.

The Next Step!

All of our holders are custom designed for the application based on proven design concepts and components. We will design your holder to include the options, styles, and features you need and desire. A prototype holder is manufactured first for testing on your press. Upon approval of the prototype, additional blade holders are manufactured to complete the press retrofit.

Please send us the following information if you would like a quote:

  1. Press name or manufacturer and model number on which the holders will be installed.
  2. The number of stations and number of holders desired.
  3. Gravure cylinder size(s) (diameter and face length).
  4. Type of inks used (Water, Solvent, or UV) and viscosity.
  5. Web path schematic and/or press drawings in the area of the doctor blade holder, if available.
  6. Maximum press speed, FPM.
  7. Any issues you are having with the current blade holders.
  8. A few digital pictures of the current blade holder and the blade holder installed on the press.
